Diversity Management

During my semester study abroad in Spring 2016, I took a Diversity Management course at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. I learned the key dimensions of diversity in the business world today: age, gender, ethnicity, disability and sexual orientation. I also learned about different diversity management efforts that companies put in, such as including diversity management in the companies’ mission statement, promoting diversity in social media, hosting cultural events and continuous improvements of disabled friendly facilities. The key takeaway for me was that, we need to talk about the differences, rather than avoiding them. It is crucial to know that “being different is not wrong” and to be able to celebrate diversity as well as similarities.
